Val d’Isere, as one of the best ski resorts in the world, has a wide selection of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained and well fed.

The prices are relatively high but overall you will receive a high level of service and delicious food. For lunch, there are several mountain restaurants serving fresh home-cooked food to keep your energy level up for skiing the rest of the day.

The restaurant La Table de l’Ours is located inside the Hotel Barmes de l’Ours and has the award of a Michelin star. As expected, the menus are creative and the food is very well presented.

L’Atelier d’Edmond at Le Fornet is organized around 3 dining rooms, each with its own distinctive style: you will feel immersed in traditional Savoyard culture. The menu is exceptional and original, the service is impeccable, and a shuttle service is provided for guests. This is a memorable place, perfect for hanging out with great company, great food, and great wines.

Le Grande Ourse is considered one of the best restaurants in Val d’Isère, and the prices reflect it. The restaurant opened in the 1930s when Val was establishing itself as a ski resort. Meals here are just as gourmet as they are at Val.

Pier Paul Jack at the Aigle des Neiges hotel is three places in one and is currently one of the ‘places to be’. Pier is the hotel’s restaurant. Paul’s is the original ‘world cuisine’ restaurant, and Jack’s is the tapas bar where you can enjoy live music while you eat.

On the slopes, probably the most famous restaurant is La Folie Douce (top of the Daille bubble). Enjoy the spectacular views towards Mont Blanc from the balconies or from the huge sofas. This is not the place to go if you like peace and quiet as there is usually music playing all day and things start to get raucous around 4pm If this appeals to you, stick around for a great après-ski , with champagne, dancing on the tables and loud music. As for the food, this is basically an expensive self-service restaurant with a wide variety of dishes and an acceptable dish of the day.

Right next door to La Folie Douce is La Fruitiere, serving pretty much the same fare but twice the price, in a much quieter setting! Both are definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere, and if you’re in a self-catering ski chalet, you may prefer to dine in the comfort of your chalet in the evenings.

This is just a sampling of some of the restaurants in Val, I’ll also be checking out the bars soon and keeping you posted.
