3 steps that will guarantee your success

I am a huge soccer fan. I watch every Bronco game, and the one thing that really strikes me week after week is that momentum can often win or lose a game. When a team can get momentum on their side and stay motivated and consistent, they must always win the game. They only lose if the momentum changes. Real estate is no different.

Once you get the momentum, you need to stay motivated. When you start to experience success, the last thing to do is take it easy, which is probably what you want to do. It’s a good idea to reward yourself for your success, but go ahead and refocus.

Sometimes it is difficult to get the momentum in your favor because you are not sure what activities will get you going. Momentum always starts with a single hit and builds from there; And it should be able to develop as your confidence increases. You must feed on your achievements. Here are three sure steps to build momentum in your real estate business.

Set your goal

This should be a short-term goal that is challenging but realistic. The short term is thirty days or sixty days maximum. An example would be having a house under contract in the next thirty days.

You think you have already met your goal

I cannot overstate the power of this. You will achieve the goals you think you can, or better yet, you think you have already achieved. The concept is simple, but the implementation is challenging. If you’ve never made a deal, how can you believe you’ll have one in the next thirty days? There are several strategies for this, but one thing I have used with great success is affirmations.

Statements are statements that are repeated over and over again until you believe it to be true. This works best when the statement is specific, personal, present tense, and positive. It is even more affective if the statement includes the goal as if you had achieved it with the steps you took to get there. Here is an example of a statement that could be used to get a deal in the next thirty days:

“I got this house under contract that will bring me $ 30,000 within a thirty day period by calling at least ten potential sellers every day from lists that include FSBO, FRBO and foreclosures.”

Once you’ve structured a quality statement, print it out and post it on your car and another on your bathroom mirror. Say it out loud at least fifty times a day.

There are whole books and home study courses that teach these things, and it all works. I recommend studying the law of attraction and choosing one or two strategies that work for you.

Mass action

Do ten times more than you think you need. If you think you need to knock on twenty doors a week or make ten calls a day, go for it, but also send mail, put up posters, call all potential referral sources, and attend networking meetings. Focus all your energy on achieving this small goal.

For me, mass action means not watching TV, not hanging out with friends, and not eating out. For me, mass action is working long, hard hours in productive activities. For me, mass action is doing what others are not willing to do. I know this is tough, but it is temporary and might be necessary to boost momentum. I like to compare this to flying an airplane. The plane consumes ninety percent of its energy to take off, but once it is in the air, it remains constant and gets results.

Once you achieve your goal, set another one and go through this process again. The momentum will build and once you have it, you just need to maintain it. While maintaining momentum, you must be consistent with your activities. I want to make it clear that maintaining is not the same as massive action and you won’t work as hard, but if you feel the momentum starting to wane, I suggest you start the process over. It is truly amazing how easy success is when you get momentum that you can build on.
