How many years have we heard about the need to minimize our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels and replace them, with emphasis, green, Renewable energy sources? In the past, some alternatives that were considered included the use of solar, geothermal, etc. energy, but, in most cases, it was too expensive and/or unappealing from a cosmetic and aesthetic point of view. A few years ago, one of the companies founded by Elon Musk created and introduced replaceable solar roof tiles instead of using units that sit on top of the regular roof. He addressed a significant cost issue by marketing these shingles at roughly the same price as conventional roofing. However, each person must figure out if a sunroof would make sense for them or be smarter than a more conventional alternative. There are four main considerations to assess, and this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, revise, and discuss them.

one. Examine the total costs: Carefully consider the total costs of switching to this alternative style. This includes materials, labor, connecting them to the power grid and, in some municipalities, government taxes, fees, etc.

two. Does the existing roof need replacement?: How old is your current roof? What condition is it in? Obviously, if you were to install a new roof, installing a solar roof becomes even more affordable anyway, etc. Are the installers and technicians, in your geographic area/region, qualified and trained to properly install these newer solutions?

3. Exposure and obstructions: Traditional solar panels require a southern exposure to maximize your return on investment! These replaced shingles cover the entire area, but one must examine whether sufficient, unobstructed sunlight makes this approach the logical decision. Examine whether the aesthetics and cosmetics of this style are consistent with your home’s top curb appeal!

Four. Local Zoning Issues, Laws and Regulations: Some municipalities place restrictions on solar panels, but few, to date, have fully addressed Elon Musk’s latest creation. Although, both from a longer-term financial/economic perspective, as well as from a renewable energy point of view, implementing this approach is a relevant, responsive and sustainable approach.

After the hurricane devastated Puerto Rico a couple of years ago, Musk’s company introduced these techniques and got certain hospitals and schools up and running quickly and efficiently long before the power grid died. reinstated We must start thinking about the future and becoming more environmentally responsible!
