There is almost nothing that can be said about the new range of Smeg fridge freezers that they do not say better themselves. Speaking of trendsetting: the Smeg fab32 fridge freezer and Smeg fab30 fridge freezer look good enough to live in, let alone store frozen vegetables.
Smeg’s design reputation will always precede a new launch from the company, whose status as a leader in the world of functional retro cool has gone unchallenged. So any murmurs about new Smeg gear are usually met with a mixture of jubilation and fearful anticipation: what if, this time, they’ve finally lost their touch? Well, they haven’t. No problem. Both the new fridges and their similarly named cousins look like they were imported from the 1950s by way of a super-intelligent living space designer from the future. The Smeg fab30 and Smeg fab32 fridge freezers are available in a number of surprisingly wonderful colours, enough to make any kitchen, anywhere in the world and quite a few places outside of it, better complement the hue. From frankly stunning lime green to the range’s flagship red (imagine a classic sports car because you can keep the cheese in), these new Smeg appliances ooze style and class to beat the gang.
So what are the numbers for? Easy. Add a zero and you have the storage capacity in liters, of each. Making the Smeg fab30 fridge freezer worth a whopping 300 liters of food and drink, and the Smeg fab32 even more generous, swallowing 3200 litres. Enough, then, to feed a family of five with room to spare. The new Smegs don’t just look good, they’ve also been designed as well as all things old Smeg.
Favorite design features include specifyable hinge locations, allowing customers to have a refrigerator whose doors open to the right or left; and the wonderful fusion of old styles and new lines, making the new Smegs in town seem like they came from a future obsessed with everything good from the past. There’s also a nice even division between fridge and freezer space, ensuring the Smeg fab30 and Smeg fab32 manage to sidestep the traditional shortcoming of most large fridge-freezer combos. The fab30 loses a bit of freezer space here, presumably to conserve generous fridge capacity, but overall both are excellent bets for the home with big storage requirements and an eye for fashion.
There aren’t many appliances on this or any other planet that look good enough to cause real desire: but the new Smegs do it with ease. So much so, in fact, that one has to wonder if anyone considering a new fridge (provided, of course, they’re as up-to-date as Smeg’s design team) would consider another option. The Smeg fab32 and the Smeg fab30 have landed. Don’t ask where from. Just be glad they’re here.
