I recently bought an iPad with the goal of replacing my laptop on business trips. I’ve been quite successful traveling alone with my iPad for the most part, and it’s all due to the following apps.

Dropbox

I use this application to keep my files in sync across all my devices. Due to this app, I only got the 16GB version of the iPad. The application allows me to access all my files in the cloud, as well as save documents that I create on the iPad directly to my Dropbox account. This is without a doubt the most important application that I have on my iPad.

Evernote

I have written about this app before, it is my brain in the cloud. This allows me to keep all my notes accessible wherever I am. With the recently released Trunk apps, Evernote will only get more valuable.

Webex

I do a lot of conference calls and presentations online, and this app is invaluable. Not only can you connect and view a Webex presentation, but you can also connect to the audio call via iPad.

Quickoffice

This is my application to create documents. I haven’t used Apple apps with the exception of Keynote, but Quickoffice works great! I can view, edit, and create documents and spreadsheets with ease, and with a Bluetooth keyboard, it’s as easy as a laptop.

Logmein ignition

There is always the time that I will need access to Internet Explorer, and for that I simply connect back home to the ole laptop. I got disconnected from most of my laptop connections, but if something comes up, this app works flawlessly.

In addition to these add-on applications, the included mail, calendar, and contacts are excellent replacements for the desktop versions. Of course I cannot forget the WordPress application, which I am creating this post with! Let me know in the comments if you’ve come across an app you can’t live without.
