In the 2010 offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to trade Donavan McNabb to a division rival. Some might say it was a mistake, that he can still run the Eagles’ West Coast offense. But Kevin Kolb and Mike Vick lead the Eagles to four wins in six weeks, now the Tennessee Titans are coming, but Kolb is up to it. Even with Wide star De Sean Jackson out due to injury, Jeremy Maclin stepped up with a great game last week and is poised for the number one spot. On Wednesday, coach Andy Reid announced that Kolb would be the starter for the third straight week. Kolb has been efficient with the ball last week, he threw 426 yards and three touchdowns, he and Maclin have developed great chemistry on the field and with the Titans weak secondary they should have a great Sunday.
Kolb has watched McNabb through five seasons as a backup and ready for the starting quarterback job. If it weren’t for an injury in the first week, he still would have started so far, but Vick came on to play exceptional and was hurt by a freak hit. by two Washington Redskins players. Andy Reid feels that Kolb can be one of the top five quarterbacks in the nation’s football league. Though Mike Vick has been through a lot of hardship, from prison to starting for the Eagles in a span of six years. This is like the bachelor on ABC, you don’t know who’s going to run the offense, but whoever it is will be very successful. The Eagles have plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball and should open up Bill Walsh’s great West Coast offense.
Sunday’s game plans to be interesting because the Titans are 2-0 against NFC foes and play well at home, but the Eagles are also undefeated on the road, what you call road warriors. There’s some drama in this, too, as Jason Babin, former Eagle defensive end, is starting on the other side of Tennessee. The Eagles released Babin two years ago and they plan to show the Eagles what they lost, he’s on a six-sack streak in six weeks, that’s one sack per game and with the Eagles offensive line, this plan is close. While Vick is healing, will Kolb still be the starter when Vick is healthy? We don’t know, but one thing is for sure: Kolb looks good running the Eagles’ offense. My prediction is that the Eagles will bring in Vick at quarterback. The Eagles have always been fascinated with the mobile quarterback. Mike Vick is phenomenally capable of running and passing at will. But it’s all about the help of Jeremy Maclin this week.
He walks and plays with the swagger and flamboyance of the Hollywood stars he grew up with. Maclin is not Hollywood. He’s the mild-mannered Midwestern player with quiet confidence. Most of his tattoos are hidden under his shirt. The St. Louis native has an urban appeal but doesn’t shout it from the top of the mountain. The Eagles are built to be tough and should be ready for a playoff run with their dual quarterback threat, the league doesn’t know who to prepare for this should be an interesting season in Philly. Despite his recent success, Kolb continues to take things week by week as a starter.
“That’s the mentality for us and for our team,” Kolb said. “Honestly, I think it helps you. You just focus on your opponent for that week. When you do that, you don’t miss a lot of detail.”
