Most of us who have been able to achieve the American dream have discovered that with that dream comes a yard. A courtyard that will be used in many different ways, apart from providing us with oxygen to breathe. Front and/or back yards can contain a multitude of things, from rocks and plants to trees and flowers. The carpet that stretches to unite all the “things” in our garden is the lawn. Unfortunately, lawn overseeding is a process that is often overlooked and is a very important process in maintaining a beautiful landscape.

Usually once a week we take out our edgers, trimmers and mowers and mow the grass. We love our gardens and take pride in how they look. We water when necessary, we provide nutrients at the right times, we can even aerate our lawn. Lawn overseeding is a crucial step that most of us forget to do. This process can make a landscape look a little less beautiful, but it is very important for a healthy lawn.

Our grass contains a great deal of life that can diminish after a while if not cared for properly. If you live in a rural area with a lot of agriculture, you’ll notice that farms sometimes take a break from growing crops. Farms stop their processes to allow the soil to be cut again before starting new crops. This is to replenish what previous crops took from the soil that was needed to grow. A very similar process is needed with your lawn to make it full, green, and free of weeds.

The benefits of overseeding lawns are to keep your lawn dense and disease resistant. The main reason to go through with this process is to have a lawn as if you just installed grass. The process is not difficult, it just requires a little effort, seeds, water and time.

Lawn overseeding has been an important process for years, yet sometimes we forget to add it to our to-do list. The process does not have to be done every year, but every 3 or 4 years if possible. Usually after 5 or 6 years, the grass starts to thin out and more weeds start to invade more of the middle of the garden. Bald spots and brown spots become more and more noticeable.

It is very important that your yard is properly maintained to have the best yard on the block and to last a lifetime without completely uprooting your lawn and starting over.
