Title and author: Multiple Internet Income Streams by Robert G. Allen

Content Synopsis:

Allen’s thesis here is threefold: first, that there is a lot of money to be made on the Internet, which is the gold mine of the future; second, that to maximize the opportunities of the Internet you must exploit several of them, or what he calls multiple streams; and third, if done right, this is a quick way to profit.

The strength of this book is the countless tips and tricks that a person new to internet trading would not know, but a veteran probably would. The major websites and internet resources alone are probably worth the price of the book if you’re just starting out on the web or fairly new to it. Another strong point of the book is the large number of ideas that it suggests. You can and should return to this book again and again to extract the gems of information that can lead you to opportunities. This is not a detailed procedures manual. It’s an excellent survey of the basic ways people make money online.

The main weaknesses of the book are that it makes assumptions that may not be valid for the inexperienced reader and promises too much too easily. Typical of Allen’s approach, it is short on obstacles and limitations and long on the promise of richness and ease of effort. For example, you discuss how quickly you can generate quick sales from a well-written email sales letter, but you don’t tell the reader that this only works when you’ve built a very impressive email subscription list and that they require a lot of money. or a lot of time and effort to create.

If you can heed that caveat and remember that there are no get-rich-quick schemes (at least none that are legal), you can still benefit significantly from this book.

I have not seen a complete basic introduction to the many opportunities to make money on the Internet that is better than this or more complete. If you want to see the opportunities out there and get excited about following one or more of these “streams,” this book is a great introduction and motivator. Just remember that it takes a lot of work and a lot more education to achieve the kinds of income streams that Allen suggests are easy to achieve. This book may well be the start of your internet wealth library, but it’s only the start: it will take a lot more to get there.

However, one principle Allen teaches here is worth commenting on, as it is so true and so important: Setting up multiple sources or “streams” of income on the Internet is critical because you are not likely to find any one source that is perfect. or last forever. Many Internet sales systems wear out over time and new “campaigns” need to be launched to capture more sales.

This book was written in 2001 and is therefore very outdated. The Internet and Internet commerce are changing rapidly. When he wrote this, there were no social networks like Facebook and very little use of video on the web. On a conceptual level, Allen’s book is still relevant, but on a technical level, much has changed since she wrote it.

Readability/Writing Quality:

This book is easy to read. Allen writes clearly and makes everything interesting. He uses a lot of subheadings and organizes the information well. He uses text boxes with supplemental information, many of which contain gems that are worth more than normal text.

Author’s Notes:

Robert Allen is an author who has been writing about building wealth for many years. He started with a book called You don’t have to give advance money on how to buy real estate with no down payment. Much has been written over the years about the validity of Allen’s real estate theories. I’ll leave that for another time and place when we do a story on him. For now it suffices to remind the reader that Allen is long on motivation and promises of possibilities and short on acknowledging what can go wrong, where the weaknesses are, etc. It’s a great read if he wants motivation and you want to stimulate his imagination to build wealth. He should never be the last word: to do his due diligence in building any kind of business, he needs more than a motivational presentation.

Three great ideas you can use:

1. Once you set up an internet money machine, i.e. an internet sales system, it works almost on autopilot. It requires little daily attention and if it was done correctly and if you have built a sufficient subscription list, your sales will flow day and night without much effort on your part.

2. The key to generating strong and sustained online sales is to build a good subscription list and continue to grow it.

3. Good copy – ie well-written sales pages are the key to converting potential customers on your opt-in list into actual buyers. Practice and perfect the art of good writing to maximize your sales opportunities.

It is difficult to reduce the list to three. Allen has a lot of gems here that you need to know from some source if you want to make money online. If that is his interest, this book is an excellent introduction.
