The most important, and wildly overlooked, aspects of wet shaving are: the angle of the blade and the pressure applied to the razor.
1) The correct angle of the blade is 30 degrees to the face. A wider angle will cause you to scrape your face instead of shaving. At too steep an angle you will cut yourself. No $200 razor or $50 shaving cream will help you if you don’t shave with the correct blade angle.
2) Do not apply any pressure on the razor. Let the weight of the razor do the work. If you have a light weight razor, use very gentle pressure when shaving. Over the last 20 to 30 years, Gillette and Schick have worked very hard to create idiot-proof shaving systems that can even be used by a monkey. With double edge razors, you have to pay attention to what you are doing when you shave. The benefits are that you’ll get a great shave, use less harmful chemicals on your skin, say goodbye to ingrown hairs, and really enjoy your shave.
3) Don’t be afraid of the blade. Make friends with the blade and think that after shaving, you will see the perfect result of what your “best friend blade” had helped you with. Always keep in mind that shaving would make you more presentable to people and the blade is the one that is helping you.
Show your best self wherever you go. Everyone wants to be respected and admired, and to get adulation from other people, do your best. The first thing people you meet would see is your face. It makes a good impression.
