What do you need:

  • 4 cups of fruit of your choice (apples, berries, peaches, etc.)

  • 1/2 box vanilla cake mix

  • 1 cup lemon lime soda

  • 2 tablespoons coarse or granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • whipped cream for serving

Preheat 45 charcoal briquettes until they glow.

To make the batter, mix the vanilla cake mix and lemon lime soda together in a bowl. The dough should be thick. Place the fruits in a lightly oiled cast iron camp dutch oven then pour the batter on top. Add the butter and then sprinkle the sugar. Cover and place dutch oven over 15 hot briquettes. Wearing flip flops, place the rest of the briquettes on the lid. Turn the oven on after 10 minutes and then cook for 20 more.

The cobbler is ready when the fruit juices are bubbling and the cake is golden brown. Remove from heat and serve with a dollop of whipped cream. It is best to consume it while it is still warm.
