Push-ups are one of the best exercises of all time. They work most of the upper body and can be done without any equipment. You may think you’re the “king” of this exercise, but do you know what the push-up world record is and how you compare?

MANY world records

First of all, it’s important to note that there is no ONE world record for the push up. Rather, there are many based on the criteria you choose. Are you looking for the most done in a row? How about the most done in a year? It may sound crazy, but how about the record for those done using just one finger as a lever? You will find all this and more below.

Push Up World Records

  • More non-stop: 10,507. This was accomplished by Japan’s Minoru Yoshida in 1980 and has yet to be broken.
  • Most in one hour: 3,877. Bijender Singh from India did this in 1988.
  • Most in a year: 1,500,230. This was done by the one and only Paddy Doyle between 1988 and 1989. Doyle, from the UK, has broken countless fitness records and will appear on this list again.
  • Most push-ups: 5,557. Canadian Doug Pruden accomplished this feat in 2004.
  • Most fingertip push-ups in 5 hours: 8,200. Terry Cole from the UK did this in 1996.
  • Most on one finger: 124. Paul Lynch of the UK achieved this in 1992.
  • Most one-armed push-ups in an hour: 2,521. Again, performed by Paddy Doyle in 1990.
  • Most one-arm push-ups: 12. Russian Yury Tikhonovich did this one in 2006.

Now is your turn!

Think you can break any of these push up world records or maybe set a new one of your own? Well, you’d better learn how to make a proper one first. Here’s how to make them perfectly shaped:

  1. Support your body on the floor with your feet together, arms at shoulder height and approximately shoulder width apart so that your body is completely straight from head to heels.
  2. Lower yourself to the floor, keeping your body straight. No sagging or hip lifting!
  3. Now push back to complete one rep.

Now keep practicing! Who knows, maybe one day you’ll make this list!
