Aviator sunglasses were originally designed in the 1930s for US Air Force pilots, but seem to have made a comeback of late as a popular fashion accessory for men and women alike.

Frequently seen in movies and worn by celebrities, pilots, US police officers and military personnel, aviator sunglasses remain very popular. With many different designer brands now producing their own styles, their signature wire frames can now be found with several different types and colors of lenses.

Possibly the most popular type of aviator sunglasses must be the silver mirrored lenses worn by US Police and seen on the cult TV series CHIP and classic ’80s movies like Top Gun. . Aviators seem to impart an element of mystery, intrigue, and danger, and it is those properties that have made them such a strong fashion choice today.

The aviator design is ideal for protecting your eyes from the sun from all angles and can now be found in a variety of colored lenses that may or may not be polarized. As you may know, polarized sunglasses block horizontal light waves to greatly reduce glare from the sun’s rays – something of a plus for pilots! As with all sunglasses, one needs to make sure that the sunglasses they buy sufficiently protect their eyes from all UV rays. Although mirrored lenses are traditionally more popular, it should be noted that mirrored sunglasses are more at risk of being scratched, but doubtfully this won’t stop people from wearing them!

Although not the original aviator sunglasses that were designed and produced by Ray Ban, there are now a range of excellent designer style aviator sunglasses such as the Oakley Crosshair or the more reasonably priced Nueu range which make make good quality aviator sunglasses available to everyone. Today’s aviator style glasses are a great and remarkable accessory that will suit most faces, men or women.

It doesn’t matter if you need sunglasses for sports, driving or leisure, aviator sunglasses are a great choice due to the available range of frames and colored lenses that I’m sure you’ll be more than happy to wear.
