Back Plate Lever Door Handles

When you need elegance and sophistication for an antique door, or perhaps to complement an older style home, then you should consider purchasing some lever handles with backplate. These are designed to have the familiar elongated escutcheon, which functions both as a hand thumb plate while using the door and an attractive ornament when the door is unsecured. These features mean they are very popular with homeowners and can add an element of traditional furnishing style both inside and outside the home.

monet door handles

These handles have a very long back plate, around 180mm end to end, with the door coming off the back plate about 47mm. The handle is gently curved, with a slight upward rise at the end for added user comfort. Made in rose brass with brushed nickel, PVD brass or a shiny brown metal, the Monet door handle set comes complete with set screws and a 7.9mm shaft that can be simply pushed through the door. For users who want extra security, it is possible to buy Monet handles with a lock at the base of the plate. This lock can be attached to the 3 lever mortise lock which is also available in this range and will provide security when used on the exterior door of a house.

Nimbus door handles

The Nimbus is a completely different style from the Monet, and this is most clearly shown in the handle, which is designed rather in the shape of a hairbrush, with a large extending shaft that is connected to the shaft inside the door, and then a rounded handle. Lever designed to be used to open the door. This rounded edge is covered with a different colored metal, meant to show the different stages of the design. The lever is carefully made to ensure the greatest possible comfort for the user. This design appears in brushed nickel colors with a polished chrome trim.

storm door handles

While the Storm door handle could be described as an attempt to mix and match the two options above, it really stands on its own. The very long back plate is 185mm, more than 50mm more than the length of the lever handle (which is 127mm). The handle itself is slightly curved, though not enough to be very noticeable, and it is a single handle length, like the Monet. It features the different colored metal on the palm pad, as the Nimbus exhibits, making it an ideal match for a more modern home. The Storm door handle is also available with a lockable back plate which again matches a mortise lock in the same style.

When looking for door handles with an added back plate, you should consider the different roles that style and tradition can play in door handle design. The backplate is a very traditional feature on doors and can be seen on most Victorian era homes, but the backplate can also be adapted for more modern use, proving that it is adaptable to the times when we live. If you have a traditional home then you may want to go for a more traditional backplate design, but for people living in new build homes modern backplate features on the handles can provide the nod to tradition they were looking for, without sacrificing style.
